Minutes of the Annual Parish Meeting held on 4th March 2024
at Tydd St Mary Village Hall, commencing at 7.00pm.
Chaired by Cllr A Magnus
Also, present: County Cllr P Coupland. District Cllr Tyrell,
Mrs J Ripley Parish Clerk and 13 members of the public.
1. The Chairman welcomed all present.
2. Adoption of Minutes from Parish Meeting held on 6/3/23
These were proposed seconded and adopted as a true record.
3. The Chairman gave a report on council activities during
the past year:
The Parish Council has been busy over the last 12 months and
have brought about many positive changes in the Parish.
A groundbreaking dog paddock was opened in the Glebe field
which is free to use and is greatly valued by dogs and their owners. This has
brought about many new friendships being made by 2 and 4 legged users and is
always busy.
Before Xmas we managed to complete the project to install a
new zip wire and improve the play equipment on the Glebe. This brought to a
conclusion a project which involved the PC successfully completing funding
applications to the Gedney Wind Farm, SHDC and Tydd Wind Farm and also
receiving welcome support from the Playing field committee.
Both of the above projects brought parishioners together in
achieving a shared goal and hopefully they will remain popular facilities for
many years to come. One of my highlights of the last 12 months was seeing the
faces of the schoolchildren when I told them in assembly that we were starting
the zip wire.
The playing field committee held the always popular Classic
car rally and in addition, a picnic in the park and dog show which were well
attended.
The parish council continued to work closely with the school
and supplied all pupils with china mugs as a keepsake for the Coronation of
King Charles.
Unfortunately, the speedwatch group has not been active, and
we are still hoping for a coordinator to volunteer together with other helpers
to get the group up and running. We are aware of how important the need to
reduce speeding is and will continue to promote the group as well as regularly
reminding Highways of improvements needed to our roads and footpaths which we
identify during our annual village walk rounds and also using FixMyStreet.
The speed limit on the A1101 has now been reduced to 50mph
and there are new warning signs outside the preschool.
2023 saw the launch of our quarterly newsletter The Tydd
Telegraph and special thanks to Peter Eves for compiling it and all other
councillors for delivering them. Hopefully they are a useful source of
information.
The PC have already in 2024 applied for funding for an
additional speed sign, a new surface and garden area on the Glebe car park and
a new wooden gazebo on the Glebe with picnic benches so fingers crossed we are
successful in our application.
We are also hoping to launch a project to review and archive
many historical documents which were left by our much-missed David Beeton, and
these will be of much interest to many in the parish.
We have now become the legal owners of the play area at Tydd
Gote and hope to work with the village in bringing about some improvements to
the facilities there.
The PC have been dealing with an employment tribunal for the
last 3 years which it successfully defended at a hearing in June. This was
stressful and time consuming for all those involved, and it was pleasing that
the PCs conduct as an employer was vindicated.
I would like to thank the other Parish councillors, as well
as Councillors Jack Tyrell, David Wilkinson and Peter Coupland for their
guidance and support, but especially Jane whose expertise as a clerk has been
invaluable.
I have looked back on our 4-year business plan and note we
have achieved 2 out of 4 objectives in the first year and continue to work on
the remaining 2. I hope that people in the parish remember we are all
volunteers and not everyone will agree with all the decisions we make but we
are the ones who have been brave enough to put our head above the parapet and
not just on the keyboard and spent many hours to get things done in the best
interests of the parish. The parish council will continue to strive for a
positive relationship with the community, as the reason we give up our time is
that we all want to leave our mark in a meaningful way.
Thank you.
Cllr Annette Magnus
